Indians to host World Series Game 1 on the same night the Cavs get their NBA championship rings

Thanks to the American League's 4-2 win in the All-Star Game this past July, the AL-champion Indians will host Game 1 of the World Series against either the Cubs or Dodgers on Tuesday, Oct. 25. That same evening, right next door, the Cleveland Cavaliers will open their 2016-17 season and officially commemorate their NBA Finals title from June, raising their championship banner and handing out their rings.
A coincidence? Hardly.
On June 2, when the NBA Finals began, the Indians were 28-24, 1.5 games behind the Royals in the AL Central. Not a dire situation, of course, but not one befitting the future AL pennant winners. But on June 19, when the Cavs finished their comeback after trailing the Warriors 3 games to 1, the Indians were 38-30 and in first place -- a half-game up on the Royals.
After the Cavs won Cleveland its first major professional sports championship in 52 years, the Indians didn't lose again in June. Beginning with their win on June 17, they won 14 straight games -- the longest streak in franchise history -- playing a schedule that looked an awful lot like the Cavs' path to their championship. All told, they went 56-37 the rest of the way after the Cavs' win, never losing their place at the top of the division.

Add in the Cavs' bolstering presence at Progressive Field for the beginning of the ALCS, and it makes perfect sense that Oct. 25 is #Believeland night.
Plus, if the Indians end up winning the World Series, they can return the Cavs a favor with a traffic-jamming parade of their own.
