One month after hosting the James Beard Awards, Chicago drafted outfielder James Beard
On May 6, the Civic Opera House in Chicago hosted the annual James Beard Foundation Awards, honoring the top chefs and restaurants in the United States. Less than one month later, the Chicago White Sox selected high school outfielder James Beard with the No. 110 pick in the 4th round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
The #WhiteSox just drafted the fastest player in the class in James Beard. And he gained a lot of strength this spring and started hitting bombs. Huge upside with this pick. #MLBDraft

This pick comes just two years after the White Sox made another culinary selection in the first round of the 2017 Draft, selecting third baseman Jake Burger with the No. 11 pick.
Chicago will host the James Beard Awards through at least 2027, but, if all goes to plan, Beard will be winning awards of his own with the White Sox well beyond that date.
