Top Mets draft pick Brett Baty was called 'Brett the Met' as a kid
By choosing Texas high school player Brett Baty with their top pick in the 2019 MLB Draft on Monday, the Mets perhaps unknowingly fulfilled a destiny that was long in the making for the third baseman. That's because calling Baty "Brett the Met" would be far from an original development.
Let Baty explain himself:

It's true.
Back in 2008, Baty donned the blue and orange for the Oak Hill Mets in T-ball.

Just throw him in a Spring Training lineup with the likes of Carlos Beltran, David Wright and Carlos Delgado, and we'd never be able to tell the difference.
If Baty signs, his first stop might very well be with another version of the Mets, though -- the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League, who have their own colorful background.

Yes, Brett, these are important things to know if you're going to be a Met.
