Usually, it's an ordeal simply making contact against dominant Mets closer Edwin Díaz. His pitches zip all over the place! How does one contend with that?
The Reds' José Iglesias cracked the code on Wednesday, though. His solo shot to left off D¨ªaz broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the ninth inning and put the Reds in front, 1-0, and sent shockwaves through Citi Field. It was only his 23rd career homer in nearly 2,500 career plate appearances.
So you can imagine the Reds were feeling good as Michael Lorenzen took the mound in the ninth to close out the win. He retired the first two batters in order, and then Brandon Nimmo lifted a high pop down the left-field line that looked like it might fall and start a rally.
Jesse Winker had no intention of allowing that to happen. He dove for the catch, and on his back and thrilled to clinch the win, he waved farewell to the nearby Mets fans.
