Team to watch
Whatever happens in Vegas ¡ should be watched. It was exciting news when the A¡¯s sent Kurtz, their first-rounder from last year, straight to Triple-A to start his first full season, and he¡¯s off to a very good start (and should put up monster numbers in the hitting-friendly environment). He¡¯s now one of nine Top 30 prospects on the Aviators¡¯ roster -- five in the top 10, seven in the top 15.
Players we could see in MLB in 2025
The A¡¯s will have to figure out a way to get Kurtz¡¯s bat into the big league lineup sooner rather than later. We¡¯re also excited to see Thomas¡¯ power-speed combination and Clarke¡¯s tools play at the highest level. Vegas might be hitter-friendly, but there are a bunch of arms who should help out this year: Hoglund really impressed this spring, but there¡¯s also Ginn, Perkins and Barnett. And many thought Holman would be in the big league bullpen out of the gate, so he should be back soon enough.
New faces
The A¡¯s signed Johnson out of the Bahamas at the start of the 2025 international signing period for $1.5 million, and he¡¯ll get his pro career started in the Dominican Summer League. Morii also signed in January, and after receiving the highest bonus ever given to an amateur out of Japan ¨C just over $1.5 million ¨C the exciting two-way player will make his debut later this season.
On the shelf
Drafted in 2023, Miller has yet to throw a pitch professionally, as he needed Tommy John surgery early in 2024. The hope is for him to finally get going in May. Basso joins him as a pitcher on the injured list as the lefty has a strained left shoulder. Lasko is starting the year on the Lansing injured list.
