No. 2 prospect Condon suffers wrist injury, follow-up coming
The RockiesĄ¯ top prospects will take the field Sunday for their Spring Breakout game against the White Sox in Camelback Ranch, but the lineup will not include the system's top-ranked position player.
Charlie Condon, selected after a record-smashing career at the University of Georgia and signed to a $9.25 million bonus, sustained a left wrist injury on Tuesday while diving to make a catch against the Athletics in the first Minor League game of the spring.
Condon is MLB Pipeline's No. 29 prospect overall, and the No. 2 prospect in the Colorado system. The Rockies are awaiting a complete diagnosis until discussing the exact nature of the injury.
Last season, the third baseman/outfielder hit .180 with a .518 OPS, one home run, 11 RBIs, and four stolen bases in 25 games with High-A Spokane after being drafted, while dealing with a bone spur on his right ring finger.
He hadn't appeared in a Cactus League game this spring, but took on Major League pitchers in intersquad matchups.
