TORONTO -- The Blue Jays were forced to shuffle their bullpen again due to an injury on Thursday, placing Taylor Cole on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured fifth toe on his right foot and recalling right-hander Chris Smith.
Cole made his Major League debut in Wednesday night's 11-5 loss to the Yankees and allowed four runs on six hits in just one inning of work. A hard ground ball back to the mound hit Cole in the foot, but it did not look serious initially as he finished the outing.

This is Smith's third MLB promotion of the season. The 28-year-old has allowed three runs over five innings in those appearances, and has posted an ERA of 4.26 in 22 games at the Triple-A level this season.
Manager John Gibbons has been forced to dig deep into his bullpen due to these ongoing injuries, Joe Smith's trade departure and some short outings from the rotation. Wednesday's loss required six relievers -- including some mop-up duty from Danny Barnes, whom the Blue Jays had hoped to avoid using -- and Gibbons hopes to stay away from similar situations going forward
"We've got a group that's got guys who have had a really good year, and they're proving themselves," Gibbons said prior to Thursday's game. "They've proved they can pitch in close games late, but we've been playing a lot of those types of games. They're all pitching a lot. As much as you want to use them, sometimes you can't."
Notes
• Kendrys Morales was a late scratch due to illness on Thursday, moving Ezequiel Carrera into the game in right field and shifting Jose Bautista to DH. Earlier in the day, Gibbons said that Norichika Aoki had flu-like symptoms after Wednesday night's game, and was not sure if he would be available for Thursday's game.
• The Blue Jays have now placed 25 players on the MLB disabled list in 2017, for a total of 30 stints. The Dodgers are the only team in baseball with more total DL stints, at 34.
• Toronto's game on Sept. 9 at home against the Tigers will be played at 4:07 p.m. ET instead of 1:07 as originally scheduled. This change has been made to accommodate broadcast commitments.
• Outfielder Darrell Ceciliani underwent successful left shoulder surgery on Wednesday to repair his labrum. Ceciliani has been on the disabled list since partially dislocating the same shoulder on May 18 while hitting a home run. The 27-year-old appeared in seven rehab games in late July, but had not played since July 28.
• Gibbons announced after Thursday's game that right-hander Chris Rowley will be brought up from Triple-A to start on Saturday. Rowley, a West Point graduate who was out of professional baseball in 2014 and '15 to serve in the United States military, holds a 2.29 ERA between the Double-A and Triple-A levels this season.
"Well he's an outstanding young American, I can tell you that," said Gibbons. "He's got a good feel of how to pitch. It's a pretty good story, you know."
