White Sox ink infielders Drury, Gray to Minors contracts
CHICAGO -- The White Sox have agreed to terms with infielders Brandon Drury and Tristan Gray on Minor League contracts, including non-roster invites to Spring Training, as announced by the team on Friday.
Drury, 32, struggled with a .470 OPS over 360 plate appearances for the Angels last year. But he had a combined .808 OPS during stops with the Angels, Reds and Padres over the 2022-23 seasons, including 54 home runs, 61 doubles and 170 RBIs. He won a ¡®22 Silver Slugger as a National League utility player.
The bulk of Drury¡¯s career defensive experience comes at second and third, but he has played every position but center field, catcher and pitcher.
Gray, 28, has played in 17 games for the Athletics, Marlins and Rays during his Major League career.
The White Sox also claimed left-hander Brandon Eisert off waivers from the Rays and designated right-hander Steven Wilson for assignment to make room for Eisert on the 40-man roster, which remains at 40.
Eisert, 27, spent the majority of last season in the Toronto organization, going 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA and 66 strikeouts over 53 ? innings (42 appearances, four starts) with Triple-A Buffalo. He made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays on June 17 vs. Boston with two scoreless innings and posted 4.05 ERA in three relief outings overall.
