Padilla joins exclusive group of White Sox
ST. PETERSBURG -- Nicholas Padilla added his name to a growing list of players who have suited up for the Cubs and White Sox.
The right-handed hurler was the 27th man for the White Sox during their doubleheader split Tuesday with the Phillies, but he was returned to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday night after not getting into either game. Padilla pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief for the Cubs at Wrigley Field against the Cardinals on Aug. 23, 2022, during his lone Major League appearance.
¡°Chicago¡¯s amazing overall,¡± Padilla said. ¡°Wasn¡¯t much of a move. It was pretty easy.¡±
Padilla, 26, has a 2.35 ERA over seven games with the Knights. He has fanned nine over 7 2/3 innings, although he also has walked seven. His Minor League performance and brief trip to Chicago followed an appearance with Team Puerto Rico during the World Baseball Classic.
¡°It was amazing. Great experience, great group of guys. The energy was amazing. You can¡¯t beat anything like that,¡± said Padilla about playing for Puerto Rico. ¡°It¡¯s a playoff game every game over there.
¡°It¡¯s win or go home, and you see it in the energy in the crowd and stands. Even the fans when guys aren¡¯t doing too well, they¡¯re still cheering you on, they¡¯re not going against you. Everyone¡¯s for everyone.¡±
