The catch was great. The throw, even better. Together, they earned Rangers center fielder DJ Peters the Play of the Week Award on Monday.
Peters¡¯ award-winning effort came Saturday night against the Red Sox at Fenway Park in the bottom of the third inning, after Rafael Devers crushed a fly ball to dead center field.
The 25-year-old Peters tracked the ball to the center-field wall, perfectly timed his jump and made an outstanding leaping grab to rob Devers of a likely game-tying extra-base hit. But that was only Part 1.
After landing back on the ground, Peters immediately came up throwing and launched a strike on one bounce from the center-field warning track to double off Boston¡¯s Enrique Hern¨¢ndez at first base.
Rangers starter Jordan Lyles got Xander Bogaerts to ground out to end the third, and Texas put up three more runs in the next half-inning to blow the game open en route to a 10-1 win.
