Lindor motivated, inspired by pilgrimage to Paris Fashion Week
NEW YORK -- Francisco Lindor has taken his love of fashion to an entirely new level.
Lindor spent three days earlier this week in Paris for Fashion Week, where he and his stylist, Allen Onyia, attended a Louis Vuitton party and made their way around the city. Among Lindor¡¯s highlights was a trip to the Arc de Triomphe -- where he posed in a long gray coat, jeans and brightly colored shoes -- among other stops around the fashion capital of the world.
¡°I¡¯m genuinely excited, truly,¡± Lindor said from Paris in a Spanish-language interview. ¡°I¡¯ve always loved fashion, design and style. For me, having the opportunity to be in Paris, see the new Louis Vuitton collection, and watch people express themselves through their outfits is incredibly inspiring. It motivates me to keep growing and improving my own sense of style.¡±
Paris Fashion Week takes place twice per year and has long been a bucket-list type of item for Lindor, who has been keen on the industry from a young age. In addition to his interest in Louis Vuitton, Lindor recently worked with Gucci on a one-of-a-kind designer baseball glove. He has long had his own New Balance shoe line, as well as a professional relationship with Oakley.
¡°Since I was a kid, I¡¯ve looked up to a lot of athletes -- many who came before me,¡± Lindor said. ¡°I¡¯ve always said that fashion rarely involves someone creating something entirely new; everyone borrows a little from the generation before them. Seeing people like Kobe [Bryant], [Michael] Jordan, LeBron [James] and Cristiano [Ronaldo], they¡¯ve all established their own unique styles, but I imagine they also learned from others. That¡¯s what I try to do, as well.¡±
Growing up with three sisters, Lindor initially learned about fashion from games of dress-up with them. It quickly became a passion for the Mets shortstop, who often arrives at work wearing something new, unique and typically bright-colored.
Lindor has said that once he retires from baseball, he wants to become more involved in the fashion industry¡¯s creative process, though he¡¯s unsure what form that might take.
At this point, Lindor is happy to be considered among baseball¡¯s most fashion-conscious players. His Paris trip was another chance to show off his style, and perhaps to learn a thing or two along the way.
¡°I think it¡¯s a myth that you have to be uncomfortable to look good,¡± Lindor said. ¡°You can absolutely look great and feel comfortable at the same time. It¡¯s all about personal style. For example, you could pair a sweatshirt with a more elevated piece on top, and you¡¯ll look super elegant and well-put-together. I believe the world of fashion allows for a balance between both.¡±
