Milwaukee stars unite as Giannis, Chourio meet
MILWAUKEE ¨C With one of Milwaukee¡¯s current sports superstars in the house, it was a chance to meet the future.
Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo was on hand at American Family Field prior to the Mets-Brewers series opener Friday to see his brother Thanasis throw a ceremonial first pitch. In the buildup to that moment, 20-year-old Brewers phenom Jackson Chourio emerged from the dugout for a quick chat before it was time to get to work.
Chourio might not have known it, but he was meeting one of his bosses. Giannis joined the Brewers¡¯ ownership in 2021, the team¡¯s first new individual investor since the club passed from Bud Selig¡¯s family to financier Mark Attanasio in 2004.
¡°This is a dream come true for a kid from Sepolia, Athens, Greece, born from immigrant parents,¡± Antetokounmpo said that day. ¡°I could have never imagined I would be in this position.¡±
Antetokounmpo also spoke that day about the joy he felt while the Bucks¡¯ championship parade weaved through downtown Milwaukee in 2021. Chourio and the Brewers are hoping to someday take the same ride, and their most recent bid begins next week with the start of the National League Wild Card Series.
