As college baseball passes the halfway mark in its regular season, USA Baseball recognized many of the top amateur players in the game with the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list on Thursday.
Once again, MLB Pipeline's top Draft prospects are heavily represented. In all, 21 of the 45 players on the watch list are also on the Draft Top 100 -- including each of the top five prospects and 16 of the top 30.
Many of the other players who didn't appear on the Draft rankings are just sophomores and aren't eligible to be drafted this July. Additionally, there are a pair of high school seniors, both of whom are expected to go high in the 2025 Draft: infielder Ethan Holliday and right-hander Seth Hernandez.
Regardless of when they're Draft-eligible, this year's winner will look to join 2024 Golden Spikes recipient Charlie Condon as a first-round pick as well. Seven of the past nine winners have become first-round picks -- all selected in the top 11 choices.
The midseason watch list includes its fair share of familiar faces, as 19 players return from the preseason edition and 26 newcomers worked their way onto the list. Additionally, Texas A&M's Ryan Prager was on the 2024 midseason watch list and Florida State's Jamie Arnold, Georgia Tech's Drew Burress and Texas A&M's Jace LaViolette were semifinalists last season.
USA Baseball will reveal its semifinalists on May 18, and fans can vote to help decide the finalists and winner, which will be announced in late June.
