Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins joins Phillies for Jackie Robinson Day celebration
Before the Phillies celebrated the life and legacy of No. 42 at Citizens Bank Park, special guests from the club took part in a Jackie Robinson Day Celebration at Miller Parker Philadelphia Stars Negro League Memorial Park at 44th & Parkside in West Parkside.
Among those participating in the free event was Phillies alum and Hall of Famer Ferguson ˇ°Fergieˇ± Jenkins, whose 284 wins are the most by a Black pitcher in major league history. Jenkins was joined by 1993 NL champion and 2008 World Series coach Milt Thompson, 1983 NLCS MVP Gary ˇ°Sargeˇ± Matthews and 1980 World Series champion Dickie Noles, along with the Phanatic and Phillies Ballgirls.
This is the 20th year since the first Jackie Robinson Day in West Parkside and the unveiling of the park.
