Free-agent pitcher Julio Urías has been suspended through the end of the 2025 All-Star break for violating Major League Baseball¡¯s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy, Commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Friday. Ur¨ªas will be reinstated from the restricted list on July 17.
Commissioner Manfred issued the following statement regarding the discipline:
¡°The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball has completed its investigation into allegations that free agent pitcher Julio Ur¨ªas violated Major League Baseball¡¯s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. Having reviewed all of the available evidence, I have concluded that Mr. Ur¨ªas violated our Policy and that discipline is appropriate.¡±
Ur¨ªas hasn¡¯t made a professional baseball appearance since he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence in September 2023. The left-hander was placed on administrative leave while Major League Baseball conducted its investigation. After parts of eight seasons with the Dodgers, he became a free agent at the end of the 2023 campaign and has remained unsigned since that time.
The Los Angeles City Attorney¡¯s office charged Ur¨ªas with five misdemeanors last April after the Los Angeles County district attorney¡¯s office opted not to pursue felony charges. Ur¨ªas pleaded no contest to one of the charges and the other four were dropped, while Ur¨ªas agreed to enter a yearlong domestic violence treatment program.
This is Ur¨ªas' second suspension for violating MLB¡¯s domestic violence policy. He was previously suspended 20 games in 2019 after being arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery. He wasn't criminally charged for that incident.
