Krush returns to lineup but hip injury flares up
OAKLAND -- Slugger Khris Davis exited the A's 5-4 win in 13 innings against the Reds on Wednesday night in the fifth due to the lingering effects of a left hip contusion he sustained making a catch against the railing in left-field foul territory in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
The A's were off on Monday, and Davis was a late scratch from Tuesday night¡¯s lineup. He started at DH on Wednesday and went 0-for-1 with a walk before Kendrys Morales pinch-hit for him in the fifth.
¡°He felt OK in batting practice, but no matter how you swing in BP, you can¡¯t simulate the swings you take in the game,¡± A¡¯s manager Bob Melvin said. ¡°He just wasn¡¯t comfortable, and I didn¡¯t want to make it worse.¡±
Davis is expected to get Thursday off, and the club will see how he feels on Friday before determining whether a stint on the injured list is necessary.
The injury comes as Davis is slumping at the plate. He's baseball¡¯s most prolific home run hitter since the start of the 2016 season, but Davis hasn't homered since April 12, batting .190 with three extra-base hits over that stretch.
