Caribbean Series to return to loanDepot park in 2028
The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) announced on Tuesday that it will host the 2028 Caribbean Series at loanDepot park in Miami.
The 2024 Caribbean Series, which featured teams from the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela), plus three guests (Cura?ao, Nicaragua and Panama), was held at the home of the Marlins. It marked the first time the winter league champions tournament had been played at a Major League stadium. The tradition of rotating participating countries to host the event was paused.
When Tiburones de la Guaira (Venezuela) captured their first title in a 3-0 win over Tigres del Licey (Dominican Republic), 36,677 attended the game -- the largest in Caribbean Series history and bigger than that of the 2023 World Baseball Classic final between the United States and Japan at the same venue (36,098).
"We are thrilled to follow on the immense success of the 2024 Caribbean Series and bring the prestigious international tournament back to Miami in 2028 in partnership with LIDOM," Marlins president of business operations Caroline O'Connor said in a statement. "This year¡¯s tournament was a marquee event for our community, and we thank LIDOM for an outstanding partnership that once again brings the best of winter baseball to loanDepot park."
Before returning to Miami, the next three Caribbean Series will be played as follows: 2025 at Mexicali, Mexico; 2026 at San Juan, Puerto Rico; and 2027 at Hermosillo, Mexico.
