Robert Jr. out for ASG after tweaking calf during Derby
Luis Robert Jr., the lone White Sox representative at the 2023 All-Star Game, will not take part in the contest due to a calf injury suffered during Monday¡¯s T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
Robert reported right calf tightness during the first round of the Derby, in which he hit 28 home runs to take down the Orioles¡¯ Adley Rutschman in bonus time. He advanced to the semifinals of the Derby, hitting 22 more homers but falling 35-22 to the Rays¡¯ Randy Arozarena.
"I feel good today, it isn¡¯t anything serious," Robert said. "But as a precaution, we decided that the best for me is not to play in tonight¡¯s All-Star Game.
"It is disappointing, but the most important thing for me is to be healthy and ready for Friday when we start the second half. I am sure I¡¯ll be 100 percent by Friday¡±
The White Sox said Robert underwent an MRI in Seattle and is listed as day to day. He will be evaluated again before the start of the season¡¯s second half Friday in Atlanta.
Robert, who is tied for third in the Majors with 26 home runs, is in the midst of a breakout season for Chicago. He is hitting .271/.330/.569 with 51 RBIs and eight stolen bases on a White Sox team currently in fourth place in the AL Central.
