DENVER ¨C The Reds added a fresh arm to their bullpen on Saturday when they recalled right-handed reliever Lyon Richardson from Triple-A Louisville. Right-handed reliever Ian Gibaut was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
Gibaut pitched the fifth inning of the Reds¡¯ 8-7 win over the Rockies on Friday and struggled a little. He allowed two runs and three hits while blowing a lead.
In 12 games, Gibaut has a 5.40 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. He was limited to two appearances last season by a right forearm injury.
Richardson got the call about his promotion at 12:45 a.m. ET and caught the first flight from Louisville to Denver early in the morning.
¡°I will fill innings. It¡¯s really what they needed from me at this point," Richardson said. "I¡¯ve been extended to three; most of the time it¡¯s been two. Mid, long, really whatever is needed.¡±
After pitching in five big league games (four starts) for the Reds over the 2023 and '24 seasons, Richardson was one of their last cuts from Spring Training after he posted a 1.80 ERA in nine games.
This season for Louisville, Richardson is 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA in seven relief appearances.
¡°The first couple of games were a little bit tough; weather conditions weren¡¯t great," Richardson said. "But I started to pick it up a little bit as the games went on.¡±
