Team to watch
Not only do the Everett AquaSox have the most Top 30 guys on the roster, with eight, the top two prospects in the system are starting there in Emerson and Montes. So is Cijntje, the switch-pitcher and 2024 first-rounder, and Peete, who starred in Seattle's Spring Breakout game.
Players we could see in MLB in 2025
The Mariners have some pretty good talent pooling at the upper levels, with two Top 100 guys in Tacoma in Young and Ford. Young could be the one to get the first opportunity and could get a shot at second base if Ryan Bliss isn¡¯t getting the job done, while Cal Raleigh isn¡¯t going anywhere behind the plate (though Ford getting reps in the outfield could help him on that front). Evans could be the arm called up at some point when the need arises.
New faces
Cijntje has yet to throw an official pitch, with either hand, though he threw well in the Spring Breakout game in Arizona last month. Sloan, the second-rounder taken right after Cijntje, is a high-end high school arm who¡¯ll also make his debut shortly with Modesto. Bautista just signed in January for $2.1 million and ¡°La Bestia¡± will debut in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Mart¨ªnez is another 2025 international signee ($2.5 million) who will join Bautista in the DSL.
On the shelf
This is currently a pretty long list. Short-term, Morales and Izzi should be back in the next week or two, and Cranton is building back up while working through concussion symptoms. The Mariners are hoping McGraw will be ready in the next month or so. Phillips has yet to throw a professional pitch because of two Tommy John surgeries, the second of which he¡¯s working his way back from now.
