Phillies name lead pitching analyst Lowy asst. pitching coach
PHILADELPHIA ¨C The Phillies wasted no time in hiring Brian KaplanĄ¯s replacement as assistant pitching coach.
The team announced Wednesday that Mark Lowy will join its Major League coaching staff. Kaplan had been the PhilliesĄ¯ assistant pitching coach and pitching development director the past three seasons before the Diamondbacks announced Tuesday that he would be their new pitching coach.
Lowy, 32, has been with the Phillies the past four years, spending this past season as their lead pitching development analyst. He joined the Phillies in 2021 as an integrative baseball performance associate in player development. He was promoted to pitching development analyst in 2022, and upper-level pitching coordinator in 2023.
Lowy was born in Ridgewood, N.J., and played college baseball at Gettysburg College. Before he joined the Phillies, he worked as an associate pitching coordinator for Cressey Sports Performance in Florida, which Kaplan co-founded.
Cressey is a popular and highly regarded training facility for professional baseball players, including pitchers Max Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Corey Kluber and top Phillies prospect Andrew Painter.
