ATLANTA -- Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara will be placed on the paternity list ahead of Monday's series opener against the Mets at Citi Field.
Alcantara, who was scheduled to start Sunday's series finale vs. the Braves that was postponed until Aug. 9, will fly back to Miami for the birth of his second child. In his place, the Marlins will turn to a spot starter to toe the rubber on Monday.
Healthy 40-man options include right-hander Valente Bellozo, who was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on March 30. He threw just 34 pitches across two innings on Friday for the Jumbo Shrimp. Adam Mazur, whom MLB Pipeline ranks as the Marlins' No. 13 prospect, last pitched on Wednesday, tossing five frames of two-run ball for Jacksonville. But the Jumbo Shrimp have him listed as their Tuesday probable. If Mazur were to be recalled, it would be his Marlins debut.
The rotation will remain in line otherwise, with righties Connor Gillispie and Max Meyer set to start on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
