The MLB Desert Invitational continued on Saturday with more action and even more offense. Scoring was up more than a run per game thanks to many impressive offensive performances. The eight teams combined for 10 homers -- two of which came from one player.
Here's a look at Saturday¡¯s top prospect performers, listed in alphabetical order.
Kuhio Aloy, DH, BYU
After kicking off his BYU career with a 3-for-5 night and his first collegiate home run, Aloy tacked on another homer in Saturday¡¯s loss to Ohio State. More ?
Beau Ankeney, DH, Grand Canyon University
Ankeney kicked off his breakout offensive performance in the first inning with a single. He followed that up with a solo home run in the sixth that extended GCU¡¯s lead over USC before sending another one deep to finish off the game in the ninth.
Vince Cimini, 2B, Boston College
After homering in Friday night's season opener against Boston College, the fifth-year player followed up with an encore performance Saturday under the sun. Cimini belted a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut BC's deficit to one run and is 3-for-6 with five RBIs to start the season.
Blake Dean, RHP, Kansas State
Dean's season debut came with a tough task. After Boston College cut Kansas State's lead to one in the seventh inning, Dean came into the game with a runner on first and no outs. He delivered three scoreless innings of relief, struck out six and closed the game for the Wildcats. He allowed just one base runner.
Rodney Green Jr., CF, Cal
Mere hours after showing off his developing hit tool and plus run grade Friday night, Green put his tantalizing power on display when he walloped a 422-foot home run at 111.1 mph off the bat to his pull side in the fifth inning. All four of his hits in his first two Desert Invitational contests have exceeded a 99.5 mph exit velocity.
Chuck Ingram, LF, Kansas State
First impressions are important, and so far the transfer from Wichita State has put together a nice start to his Wildcat career. He recorded his first hit Friday night and carried his success at the plate on to Saturday. Ingram went 2-for-4 (two doubles), scored two runs and drove in another.
Henry Kaczmar, SS, Ohio State
After going hitless on Friday night, Kaczmar responded on Saturday night by going 3-for-5. The shortstop, who was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team last season, recorded three RBIs, with a pair of them coming with two outs.
Tyler Pettorini, 3B, Ohio State
Pettorini came through in the fifth inning by giving the Buckeyes a critical go-ahead run with a single to right field. He drove in another runner in the eighth inning to boost Ohio State's lead. He finished 3-for-5.
Grant Richardson, LHP, Grand Canyon
Richardson threw three innings of relief for Grand Canyon on Saturday, allowing just one hit while striking out six batters. The six strikeouts matched a career high.
Ty Ruhl, RHP, Kansas State
The Wildcats provided Ruhl with an early two-run lead, and the redshirt junior did his part in keeping Boston College's damage to a minimum. Ruhl pitched six innings, struck out six and allowed just two earned runs in Kansas State's victory.
