Team to watch
Aberdeen leads the way with nine Top 30 prospects on the projected roster, but it¡¯s hard to look past that two-headed monster at the top of the list. With Mayo and Basallo¡¯s power bats in Norfolk, that has to be the best ticket in the organization right now, and the Tides do have four other Top 30 guys behind that dynamic duo.
Players we could see in MLB in 2025
Orioles fans got a very brief, and unsatisfying, look at Mayo in the big league lineup last year. It¡¯s only a matter of time before he gets locked in and forces his bat into Baltimore¡¯s lineup again, this time for a longer stay. Basallo doesn¡¯t have as much Triple-A time as Mayo does, but he has similar offensive upside that could look very good at the highest level before the year is out. If you¡¯re looking for pitching help, you can hope McDermott makes it back soon, while guys like Weston and Young are close by as well.
New faces
No one on the Top 30 hasn¡¯t debuted, at least in the Minors, but there are a number of players who will really be introducing themselves fully for the first time in 2025. Honeycutt, the 2024 first-rounder, played just 13 games after signing. He¡¯s joined by others from his Draft class: O¡¯Ferrall (20 games), Anderson (19 games) and Overn (21 games). Then there are 2024 international signees who should come stateside for the first time, most likely in the Florida Complex League: Sanchez and Martinez lead that group.
On the shelf
McDermott is a little behind because of a lat strain that slowed him early in Spring Training. He¡¯s likely headed to Triple-A Norfolk once he¡¯s been given the green light after starting to build himself back up in mid-March.
