Here's the Phillies' Spring Breakout roster

@ToddZoleckiCLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Phillies opened Spring Training last month saying top pitching prospect Andrew Painter could be a difference-maker in the big league rotation by ¡°July-ish,¡± which is how president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski phrased Painter¡¯s tentative timeline. But there is more than Painter to watch in the Phillies¡¯ system.

What is Spring Breakout?
MLB Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing baseball¡¯s future: the current stars of Minor League Baseball. The second edition will be held from March 13-16 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training. Sixteen exhibition games will be played between teams comprised of each MLB organization¡¯s top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates the sport¡¯s budding talent.
When is the Phillies¡¯ game?
The Phillies¡¯ top prospects will play the Pirates¡¯ top prospects at 1:05 p.m. ET on March 14 at BayCare Ballpark.
How can I tune in?
Which position players are expected to play?
Shortstop Aidan Miller (No. 2 in system, No. 27 in baseball) and center fielder Justin Crawford (No. 3 in system, No. 63 in baseball) lead the way. Dombrowski said while he does not expect either player to make their big league debut this year, he does think they could be fast risers through the system. Don¡¯t be surprised to see either or both in red pinstripes in 2026.
Catcher Eduardo Tait (No. 4 in system, No. 92 in baseball) will be an interesting player to watch in the coming years. He can really hit, and he has taken strides defensively. Oh, and he doesn¡¯t turn 19 until Aug. 27.
Which pitching prospects are expected to play?
Right-handers Mois¨¦s Chace (No. 5 in system) and Jean Cabrera (No. 11 in system) were both added to the Phillies¡¯ 40-man roster in the offseason, protecting them from the Rule 5 Draft. The Phils got Chace last summer in the Gregory Soto trade with Baltimore. He came into camp last month behind schedule, so it would be a fun early look if he gets on the mound against the Pirates¡¯ prospects.
Cabrera was the organization¡¯s Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2021 as a 19-year-old. He has come a long way. The Phillies have liked what they¡¯ve seen in the early goings of camp.
Why are certain top prospects not listed on the roster?
Painter (No. 1 in system, No. 8 in baseball) will not pitch in Spring Breakout. He is working his way back from following Tommy John surgery in 2023. Painter is healthy. He has been throwing bullpens in Clearwater, but he is not expected to face hitters in game situations until extended spring training. Mick Abel (No. 8 in system) is preparing for the season, too. He will not pitch, either.
That said, both Painter and Abel will be signing autographs before the game.
