Marlins' prospect PJ Morlando sidelined after left elbow surgery
JUPITER, Fla. -- PJ Morlando, ranked as the Marlins' No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline, underwent an ulnar nerve transposition on his left elbow on Wednesday.
The timeline to return to play for Morlando is 8-10 weeks.
Morlando felt discomfort in his non-throwing arm over the weekend and was evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister, who performed the procedure in Texas. The surgery doesn¡¯t involve repairing or reconstructing the elbow rather relocating the nerve to alleviate pressure.
This marks the latest setback for the 19-year-old Morlando, who was selected 16th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft. He recorded just one plate appearance for Single-A Jupiter to begin his professional career before being shut down with a lumbar stress reaction.
Miami will replace Morlando on Friday¡¯s Spring Breakout roster, which showcases the system's top prospects.
