Athletics announce non-roster invitees to Spring Training
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. ¡ª The Athletics announced 20 non-roster invitees to Spring Training for the 2025 season. The list includes 11 players that were in the A¡¯s farm system in 2024 and nine free agents that signed minor league deals following the 2024 season.
Heading the group of non-roster invitees are four A¡¯s first round draft picks: infielder Nick Kurtz (2024), catcher Daniel Susac (2022), infielder Max Muncy (2021) and infielder Logan Davidson (2019). Kurtz went 14-for-38 (.368) with four home runs and 13 RBI in 12 games with Single-A Stockton and Double-A Midland after being selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Wake Forest. He is the A¡¯s second ranked prospect according to MLB.com. Susac batted .257 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI in 88 games with Midland in his third professional season. Muncy hit .292 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 58 games with Triple-A Las Vegas and the A¡¯s affiliate in the Arizona Complex League but spent half of the season on the injured list. He is rated as the A¡¯s eighth best prospect by MLB.com. Davidson spent most of the season at Las Vegas where he hit .300 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI in 87 games. He also went 3-for-7 (.429) in two games with the ACL A¡¯s.
In addition to Kurtz and Muncy, three other top A¡¯s prospects according to MLB.com will be non-roster invitees, including outfielder Henry Bolte (No. 5), right-handed pitcher Mason Barnett (No. 6) and outfielder Colby Thomas (No. 7). Bolte combined for a .267 average, 15 home runs, 73 RBI and 46 stolen bases in 123 games between High-A Lansing and Midland last year. Barnett, who was acquired from Kansas City in the Lucas Erceg trade, was 9-8 with a 4.20 ERA and 161 strikeouts in 133.0 innings with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Midland. Thomas hit .277 with 44 doubles, five triples, 31 home runs, 92 RBI and a .905 OPS in 132 games with Midland and Las Vegas.
Rounding out the list of invitees from the A¡¯s farm system are right-handed pitchers Jack Perkins, Pedro Santos and Chen Zhuang and left-handed pitcher Domingo Robles. Perkins was 4-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 18 games, 16 starts, with Midland and also had one rehab start with the ACL A¡¯s. Santos was a combined 2-3 with seven saves and a 4.70 ERA in 48 games with Midland and Las Vegas. Zhuang, who was signed out of Taiwan in 2021 at the age of 21, pitched for Stockton, Lansing and Midland and was 6-2 with a save and a 2.09 ERA in 23 games, 15 starts. Robles went 7-2 with a 2.98 ERA in 21 games, 13 starts, with Midland and also had one start with the ACL A¡¯s.
Five of the nine remaining players have Major League experience, including right-handed pitchers Jason Alexander (Brewers, 2022) and Ben Bowden (Rockies, 2021), left-handed pitchers Matt Krook (Yankees, 2023; Orioles, 2024) and C.D. Pelham (Rangers, 2018) and infielder Alejo Lopez (Reds, 2021-23). Alexander was 7-6 with a 4.42 ERA in 29 games, 27 starts, with Triple-A Worcester (Red Sox) in 2024 and Bowden was 2-1 with a 4.03 ERA in 27 relief appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett (Braves). Krook logged a 3-2 record, a 3.92 ERA and a save in 41 games with Triple-A Norfolk and also had one appearance with the Orioles. Pelham combined for a 1.80 ERA in 10 games with Double-A Rocket City and the ACL Angels, while Lopez batted .307 with four home runs, 55 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 112 games with Gwinnett.
Rounding out the list of non-roster invitees are right-handed pitcher Tanner Dodson, catcher Willie MacIver, and outfielders Drew Avans and Carlos Cortes. Dodson, who was born in Sacramento and graduated from Jesuit High School in Carmichael, was 3-3 with a save and a 3.32 ERA in 41 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City (Dodgers) last year. MacIver batted .297 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI in 89 games with Triple-A Albuquerque (Rockies). Avans hit .272 with eight home runs, 52 RBI, 105 runs scored and 35 stolen bases with Oklahoma City and Cortes posted a .246 batting average, 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 83 games with Triple-A Syracuse (Mets).
