The Orioles today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher CODY POTEET from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
Poteet (pronounced poh-TEET), 30, spent 2025 Spring Training with the Cubs after being acquired from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Cody Bellinger and cash considerations on December 17, 2024. He went 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA (6 ER/24.1 IP) with 18 hits (2 HR), seven total runs, one hit batter, eight walks, and 16 strikeouts in five games (four starts) for the Yankees last season and 3-0 with a 3.40 ERA (20 ER/53.0 IP) in 13 starts between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Somerset. He was not on the Yankees¡¯ Postseason roster for the ALDS, ALCS, or World Series.
Poteet was originally selected by the Miami Marlins in the fourth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA. He also spent time in the Kansas City Royals organization in 2022 but never appeared in the big leagues. Poteet made his MLB debut for the Marlins on May 12, 2021 at Arizona and earned the win after allowing two runs in 5.0 innings. In 24 career MLB games (13 starts) between Miami and New York-AL, he¡¯s 5-4 with a 3.80 ERA (35 ER/83.0 IP).
