The Phillies have claimed right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
De Geus, 27, made 13 relief appearances with the Seattle Mariners, Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays in 2024, recorded a 7.15 ERA (9 ER, 11.1 IP) and posted nine scoreless outings. Per Statcast, the 6-foot-2 right-hander averaged 96.4 mph on his sinker last season, which ranked in the 86th percentile for fastball velocity. He has totaled 60 relief appearances across the 2021 and 2024 seasons and has a 3-4 record with a 7.48 ERA (51 ER, 61.1 IP).
The Pleasanton, Calif., native was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
