Pirates add right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado to 40-man roster
The Pittsburgh Pirates today added right-handed pitcher Elvis Alvarado to the 40-man roster.
The 25-year-old Alvarado spent a majority of the 2024 season with Triple-A Jacksonville, where he went 3-4 with 11 saves, a 2.79 ERA (48.1ip/15er) and 71 strikeouts (33.2 percent strikeout rate) in 41 relief appearances.
Alvarado¡¯s 11 saves ranked second among all Marlins minor leaguers and fifth in the International League. Alvarado also posted a 1.14 ERA (39.1ip/5er), 63 strikeouts and .159 batting average against (21-for-132) in his final 32 outings with Jacksonville after recording a 10.00 ERA (9.0ip/10er) in seven outings at the Triple-A level in April.
Alvarado began his professional career as an outfielder with the Washington Nationals organization before being converted to a pitcher in 2018.
The 6¡¯4¡¯¡¯ righthander has posted a career record of 15-14 with 23 saves, a 4.25 ERA (230.2ip/109er) and 257 strikeouts in 175 appearances (seven starts) in his minor league career.
