Pirates announce 14 additional non-roster invitees
The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the following players will attend Major League camp as non-roster invitees.
Omar Alfonzo (C) 每 Enters this season rated as Pittsburgh*s No. 18 prospect
according to Baseball America...Hit a combined .252 (97-for-385) with 17 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and 46 RBI in 110 games in 2024 between Bradenton and Greensboro.
Hunter Barco (LHP) 每 Went a combined 4-2 with a 3.27 ERA (66.0ip/24er), 83 strikeouts and a .204 batting average against in 18 appearances (16 starts) last year with Greensboro and Altoona...Went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA (15.0ip/3er), 22 punchouts, a .104 batting average against and a 0.53 WHIP in his final four appearances (two starts) with Greensboro before being promoted to Altoona on July 19...Was ranked No. 75 among the top 250 draft prospects list by MLB Pipeline when the Pirates selected him in the second round (44th overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft.
Ryan Borucki (LHP) - Is 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA (51.1ip/20er) in 52 appearances (two starts) in parts of two seasons with the Pirates...Missed a total of 126 big league games in 2024 due to left triceps
inflammation...Is 14-9 with a 4.23 ERA (221.1ip/104er) in 148 appearances (21 starts) in the big leagues with Toronto (2018-22), Seattle (2022) and Pittsburgh (2023-24).
Jack Brannigan (INF) 每 Finished the 2024 season ranked fourth in the South Atlantic League with 18 home runs...Was tied for third in the South Atlantic League with 17 home runs, tied for sixth in RBI (51), eighth in slugging (.464) and tied for eighth in OPS (.802) prior to being placed on the injured list on July 27...Enters 2025 rated by Baseball America as having the ※Best Infield Arm§ in the Pirates minor league system.
Bubba Chandler (RHP) 每 Enters this year No. 7 among Baseball America*s top 100 prospects...Led all Pirates minor leaguers with 148 strikeouts in 2024 while going a combined 10-7 with a 3.08 ERA (119.2ip/41er) in 26 appearances (23 starts) between Altoona and Indianapolis...Led all International League pitchers in ERA (1.83) and strikeouts (54) from the time of his Triple-A debut on August 9 through the end of the 2024 regular season...Was rated by Baseball America as the 20th-best player (21st by MLB Pipeline) in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft when Pittsburgh selected
him in the third round (72nd overall) out of North Oconee (GA) High School.
Matt Gorski (OF) - Spent all of 2024 with Indianapolis, where he hit .257 (100-for-389) with 24 doubles, five triples, 23 home runs and 67 RBI...Finished tied for the organizational lead in home runs
along with Shawn Ross last season (his 67 RBI also ranked third among Pirates farmhands)...Also ranked tied for sixth in the International League in home runs, fourth in slugging (.522) and tied for fifth in extra-base hits (52)...Leads all Pirates minor leaguers in home runs (84) since the beginning of 2021.
Konnor Griffin (INF) - Enters the season No. 43 among MLB Pipeline*s top 100 prospects (No. 57 by Baseball America)...Was named Baseball America*s High School Player of the Year in 2024...Entered the 2024 draft rated by both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America as the No. 9 prospect...Was also rated by Baseball America as the ※Best Athlete,§ second in ※Best Power§ and ※Best Defensive Outfielder§ and fourth in ※Best Speed§ among last year*s high school draft class.
Thomas Harrington (RHP) - Finished second among Pirates minor leaguers in ERA (2.61) with a minimum of 90.0 innings pitched and strikeouts (115) last year while going a combined 7-3 in 22 appearances (21 starts) last year between Altoona, Indianapols and Bradenton (rehab)...Enters 2025 ranked 74th among Baseball America*s top 100 prospects (80th by MLB Pipeline)...Was ranked No. 45 among the top 250 draft prospects by MLB Pipeline when the Pirates selected him in the Competitive Balance A round (36th overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft.
Termarr Johnson (INF) - Enters this year ranked 83rd among MLB Pipeline*s top 100 prospects (No. 6 among second basemen)...Spent a majority of 2024 with Greensboro, where he ranked second in the South Atlantic League in walks (78), third in runs scored (73) and fifth in OBP (.372)...Was tabbed by Baseball America as the ※Best Pure Hitter,§ second ※Closest to the Majors,§ and tied for third for ※Best Defensive Infielder§ among high school players in the 2022 draft.
Aaron McKeithan (C) - Hit .264 (43-for-163) with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 16 RBI in 55 games with Double-A Springfield last season...Was selected by the Pirates in the AAA Phase of the Minor League Rule 5 Draft on December 11...Has made 115 appearances (102 starts) behind the plate in his minor league career since being selected by St. Louis in the 16th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
Ryder Ryan (RHP) - Made 15 appearances with the Pirates last season while also being a member of the Opening Day roster...Made his Pirates debut last year on March 29 at Miami and picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief...Made his big league debut on August 11, 2023 while pitching for Seattle.
Anthony Solometo (LHP) - Spent a majority of 2024 with Altoona, where he went 1-7 with a 5.98 ERA (58.2ip/39er) in 20 appearances (17 starts)...Entered 2024 ranked 82nd among MLB Pipeline*s top 100 prospects...Was selected in the second round (37th overall) by the Pirates in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop Eustace (NJ) Prep School.
DJ Stewart (OF) - Hit .177 (28-for-158) with four doubles, five home runs and 19 RBI in 74 games last year with the Mets...Drew a walk every 6.26 plate appearances last season, which was the fourth-best mark in MLB among players with at least 150 plate appearances...Has hit .212 (179-for-845) with 34 doubles, 42 home runs and 118 RBI in 327 games in the big leagues with Baltimore (2018-22) and the New York Mets (2023-24).
Sean Sullivan (RHP) - Went 2-5 with one save, a 3.84 ERA (72.2ip/31er) and 57 strikeouts in 15 appearances (13 starts) with Altoona in 2024...Ranked 10th in the Eastern League with a 2.96 ERA at the end of May last year...Was placed on the injured list on June 28 with right shoulder soreness and missed the remainder of the 2024 season...Has compiled a 12-14 record with two saves, a 4.10 ERA (261.1ip/119er), 238 strikeouts and a .250 batting average against in 59 appearances (49 starts) since the Pirates selected him in the eighth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.
