The Pittsburgh Pirates today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Thomas Harrington to the 26-man Major-League roster.
Harrington, who will make his big-league debut tonight at Tampa Bay, enters today rated No. 73 among Baseball America¡¯s top-100 prospects (No. 78 by MLB Pipeline).
The 23-year-old righthander finished second among Pirates minor leaguers last year in WHIP (0.96), fourth in ERA (2.61) and strikeouts (115) and fifth in batting average against (.220) while making a combined 22 appearances (21 starts) between Low-A Bradenton, Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis.
Harrington will wear uniform No. 78.
Catcher Jason Delay has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Right-handed pitcher David Bednar has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room on the 26-man active roster.
