Pirates Sign Caleb Ferguson to One-Year Contract
The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson to a one-year contract for the 2025 season.
The 28-year-old Ferguson went a combined 1-4 with one save, a 4.64 ERA (54.1ip/28er) and 67 strikeouts in 62 appearances in 2024 with New York (AL) and Houston. Ferguson also recorded a 2.95 ERA (18.1ip/6er) during his final 18 appearances during the 2024 season.
Ferguson threw a cutter 249 times in 2024, which generated a 33.6 whiff percentage and .130 batting average against.
Since the beginning of the 2022 season, Ferguson ranks 13th in all of MLB among left-handed relievers with at least 140.0 innings pitched with a ground ball rate of 46.9 percent. Ferguson¡¯s 3.37 ERA (141.2ip/53er) since the beginning of the 2022 season also ranks 13th among all left-handed relief pitchers with at least 140.0 innings pitched.
Ferguson ranked sixth among all National League relievers in 2023 in home runs allowed per 9.0 innings (0.50) and ground ball percentage (50.7) while finishing tied for the team lead on the Dodgers in appearances (68).
Ferguson was originally selected by the Dodgers in the 38th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He has posted a career record of 19-13 with six saves, a 3.68 ERA (261.2ip/107er), 314 strikeouts and .240 batting average against in 263 appearances (14 starts) with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2018-23), New York Yankees (2024) and Houston (2024).
