BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today signed left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet to a 6-year contract extension that spans the 2026-2031 seasons.
Crochet, 25, made his Red Sox debut as Boston¡¯s Opening Day starter on March 27 against the Texas Rangers. The left-hander allowed just two runs in 5.0 innings with two walks and four strikeouts in the Red Sox¡¯ 5-2 victory. Acquired from the Chicago White Sox on December 11, 2024, in exchange for four minor leaguers, he owns a 3.29 ERA (82 ER/224.0 IP) with 298 strikeouts and a .221 opponent batting average (185-for-839) in 105 career games (33 starts) with the White Sox (2020-24) and Red Sox (2025).
The American League¡¯s Comeback Player of the Year and an All-Star in 2024, Crochet made 32 starts and posted a 3.58 ERA (58 ER/146.0 IP) with 209 strikeouts, 33 walks, a 1.07 WHIP, and a .222 opponent batting average for the Chicago White Sox. Among pitchers to make at least 30 starts, he ranked first in strikeout rate (35.1%) and strikeouts per 9.0 innings (12.88), second in FIP (2.69), and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.33).
Selected by the White Sox in the first round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft (No. 11 overall), Crochet made his Major League debut in September 2020, becoming the first pitcher since Brandon Finnegan in 2014 to make their big league debut in their draft year. Crochet made his first Opening Day roster in and pitched only in relief before making his first career start on Opening Day in 2024. In four career Postseason outings (2020-21), he has allowed zero runs in 3.0 innings, giving up five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Born in Ocean Springs, Miss., Crochet graduated in 2017 from Ocean Springs High School before pitching at the University of Tennessee from 2018-20.
