BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts on the 15-Day Injured List with a right pectoral strain. To fill his spot, the club selected right-handed pitcher Michael Fulmer to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. Fulmer will wear number 51.
The Red Sox¡¯ 40-man roster is now at 40.
Fitts, 25, was removed from yesterday¡¯s game against the Chicago White Sox after pitching 5.0 scoreless innings with two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 3.18 ERA (6 ER/17.0 IP) in three starts this season. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Alabama native owns a 2.39 ERA (10 ER/37.2 IP) with 22 strikeouts in seven career Major League games, all starts for the Red Sox (2024-25).
Fulmer, 32, has recorded a 3.09 ERA (4 ER/11.2 IP) with 18 strikeouts in three games (two starts) for Worcester this season. The right-hander also pitched in five Grapefruit League games for Boston during 2025 Spring Training, posting a 0.79 ERA (1 ER/11.1 IP). Originally selected by the New York Mets in the first round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, the Oklahoma native owns a 3.94 ERA (295 ER/674.0 IP) in 262 Major League games (90 starts) with the Detroit Tigers (2016-22), Minnesota Twins (2022), and Chicago Cubs (2023). A 2017 American League All-Star and 2016 American League Rookie of the Year, Fulmer was signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on February 2, 2024. He underwent right elbow UCL revision surgery on October 18, 2023, and missed the entire 2024 season.
