BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Robert Stock to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 78. To make room, Boston optioned right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Worcester following yesterday¡¯s doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Red Sox¡¯ 40-man roster is now at 40.
Stock, 35, has pitched in two games (one start) for Triple-A Worcester this season, tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with three walks and 12 strikeouts. The right-hander was signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on January 15, 2025, and pitched in three Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox. Originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has recorded a 4.71 ERA (38 ER/72.2 IP) in 55 career Major League games (three starts) with the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Red Sox (2020), Chicago Cubs (2021), and New York Mets (2021).
Criswell, 28, earned his first career save in Game Two of yesterday¡¯s doubleheader against the Cardinals, pitching 3.0 innings. The right-hander has appeared in three games this season, allowing eight runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 4.71 ERA (74 ER/141.1 IP) in 41 career Major League games (20 starts) with the Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024-25).
