In his first stint with the Yankees from 2019-20, Ottavino went 8-8 with two saves, a 2.76 ERA (84.2IP, 26ER) and 113K in 97 relief appearances. He was the first player in franchise history to wear No. 0.
The New York, N.Y., native was originally selected by St. Louis in the first round (30th overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Northeastern University (Mass.). He was claimed off waivers by Colorado on April 3, 2012. Ottavino was signed by the Yankees to a three-year contract on January 24, 2019. He was acquired by Boston along with RHP Frank German from the Yankees in exchange for a PTBNL or cash considerations on January 25, 2021. Ottavino was signed by New York-NL to a one-year Major League contract on March 14, 2022. He then re-signed with New York-NL to a one-year Major League contract with a player option for the 2024 season on December 26, 2022. He declined his 2024 player option following the 2023 season, but later re-signed with New York-NL to a one-year Major League contract on January 30, 2024.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have transferred RHP JT Brubaker to the 60-day injured list. Additionally, the Yankees have placed RHP Devin Williams on the paternity list.
