ST. LOUIS -- The Reds reinstated pitcher Brandon Finnegan to start Monday's game against the Cardinals, and they optioned right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla to Triple-A Louisville. Right-hander Bronson Arroyo (right shoulder) has also been placed on the 60-day disabled list.
Finnegan (1-0, 2.70 ERA) had been on the DL for over two months while dealing with a left shoulder injury, and Monday was his first start since April 15. However, the left-hander exited in the fourth inning Monday with a left triceps strain.
 

Continuing to travel back and forth between the Reds and Louisville, Bonilla (1-3, 7.59 ERA) has struggled in his recent appearances this season. In Cincinnati's 18-3 loss to the Nationals on Saturday, he gave up eight hits and five runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Arroyo had been struggling with his shoulder injury, and he was placed on the 10-day DL following his last start against the Dodgers on June 18. After the game, an 8-7 loss in which he allowed five runs over three innings, he had expressed that he felt his career was over due to the injury, which he discussed again Monday.

The 40-year old Arroyo had returned to Cincinnati, previously pitching for the Reds from 2006-13, after a two-and-a-half year absence following elbow and shoulder surgeries in '14, during his time with the D-backs.

Shortstop Zack Cozart is likely to be activated from the 10-day DL when he becomes eligible on Wednesday, for the Reds' game against the Brewers. He was placed on the DL last Monday with a right quad strain, but he has been making good progress.

"I saw him [on Saturday] doing all of his infield stuff," manager Bryan Price said. "He looks really good, and when he's ready to go and when we get through those 10 days, he'll be back in there. It will just be making sure that we're as confident as we can be that he is fully ready to go and not shortcut it if another day or two would make a difference. I'd love to have him back as soon as possible, but try to make the cautious call."
A new face in center field
The Reds shook things up a bit in the outfield for Monday's game. Patrick Kivlehan started in center, making his first career appearance at the position. He took Billy Hamilton's spot with the center fielder getting a day off, which also gave Kivlehan a chance to show what he can do.
"I just kind of figured, 'You know what? I think this kid can play center,'" Price said. "I think it adds to his value, and I want to see it in game situations. This is an opportunity to just play another position and add even more value to the ballclub."
