DENVER -- Scott Oberg, a key right-hander in the Rockies¡¯ bullpen before multiple bouts with thoracic outlet syndrome kept him off the field for good after the 2019 season, announced Tuesday that he will end his comeback attempt and accept a part-time position with the club as a special assistant to baseball operations.

Oberg, 32, appeared in 259 regular-season games from 2015-19, going 18-8 with a 3.85 ERA and seven saves. The biggest moment for Oberg was the 2018 National League Wild Card Game, when he struck out all four batters he faced in the 12th and 13th for the win in a 2-1 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Oberg has had four occurrences of blood clots in his right arm since 2016. He had aborted comeback attempts in '20 and during Spring Training in '21. Since his last comeback attempt, he has helped the Rockies in various capacities -- lending experience to relievers, consulting with the front office and analytics staffs, as well as helping with scouting and the Draft. Additionally, Oberg was the Rockies¡¯ player representative to the MLB Players Association.
