Players of the Week: Hern¨¢ndez, Gilbert
Blue Jays outfielder Teoscar Hern¨¢ndez and D-backs pitcher Tyler Gilbert have been named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet.
Hern¨¢ndez's huge week included eight runs scored, three home runs and 10 RBIs. Across seven games, the Dominican native Hern¨¢ndez led all AL players in batting average (.500), hits (14) and total bases (25).
The highlight of his week came during Wednesday¡¯s 10-2 drubbing of the Angels, when he clubbed a grand slam over the left-field fence to break a fifth-inning tie.
The 28-year-old outfielder has been on a torrid stretch of late, hitting .431 (25-for-58) in 16 games during the month of August as well as .355 (38-for-107) through 30 games following the All-Star break.
This is the third consecutive week a Blue Jays outfielder has received AL Player of the Week honors, following an incredible two-week run by teammate George Springer.
Gilbert earned NL Player of the Week following a historic performance Saturday night, when he became the fourth player to throw a no-hitter in his first career start.
The California native surrendered three walks and recorded five strikeouts across his nine innings of work, becoming the third pitcher in D-backs history to throw a solo no-hitter.
Including three relief appearances earlier this month, the 27-year-old Gilbert sports a spotless 0.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts across 12 2/3 innings pitched.
