Top prospects in teams' 60-man player pools

July 14th, 2020

As we near the beginning of summer training camps for teams before they return to the field following the hiatus to battle the coronavirus pandemic, we know that this year's expanded rosters may provide a better chance than most seasons to get a glimpse of some of the top prospects in the game.

With organizations announcing their 60-man player pools on Sunday and 30-man rosters to be determined ahead of Opening Day, there are more opportunities than usual for the game's future stars to secure roster spots.

Here is a list of every prospect from a team Top 30 list or 2020 Draft class who made his club's 60-man player pool:

AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST

Blue Jays: Nate Pearson, RHP (No. 1), Jordan Groshans, SS (No. 2), Simeon Woods Richardson, RHP (No. 3), Alek Manoah, RHP (No. 4), Alejandro Kirk, C (No. 5), Anthony Kay, LHP (No. 10), Patrick Murphy, RHP (No. 19), Reese McGuire, C (No. 20), Anthony Alford, OF (No. 21), Santiago Espinal, SS (No. 22), Kevin Smith, SS/3B (No. 23), Thomas Hatch, RHP (No. 24), Julian Merryweather, RHP (No. 25), Riley Adams, C (No. 27), Yennsy Diaz, RHP (No. 29), Austin Martin, SS (first-round pick)

A young team with an eye on the future, Toronto could see plenty of top talent on display at the Major League level this season. With four prospects who have already debuted and gotten a taste of the action in the big leagues, it would be no surprise to see Kay, McGuire, Alford or Diaz return and crack the Opening Day roster, with plenty of talent to continue stocking the prospect shelves for whenever it might be needed. The club has included 15 of its Top 30 prospects in its 60-man player pool with two spots open.

Hays got his first taste of the Majors last season and fared well as a September callup. The outfielder hit .309 with four homers over 21 games during his stint in Baltimore. Harvey pitched in seven games last season and Tate racked up 21 innings over 16 appearances.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Rays: Wander Franco, SS (No. 1), Brendan McKay, LHP/DH (No. 2), Vidal Brujan, 2B/SS (No. 3), Shane Baz, RHP (No. 5), Shane McClanahan, LHP (No. 7), Joe Ryan, RHP (No. 8), Josh Lowe, OF (No. 9), Ronaldo Hernandez, C (No. 11), Taylor Walls, SS (No. 15), Kevin Padlo, 3B/1B (No. 16), Randy Arozarena, OF (No. 17), Peter Fairbanks, RHP (No. 24), Lucius Fox, SS (No. 25), Josh Fleming, LHP (No. 28), Esteban Quiroz, 2B (No. 30)

Baseball's top prospect is among the talent Tampa Bay has included in its player pool, with Franco ready to debut if and when he's called upon. Whether the 19-year-old phenom cracks the big league roster or has an opportunity to face big league talent in intrasquad games at the Rays' remote training site in Port Charlotte, there is excitement in knowing that he will be in action, among a number of exciting players Tampa Bay will have at the ready among its 60-man player pool.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Red Sox: Jeter Downs, SS/2B (No. 1/MLB No. 44),?Bobby Dalbec, 3B/1B (No. 3), Bryan Mata, RHP (No. 4), Jay Groome, LHP (No. 7), Jarren Duran, OF (No. 8), Tanner Houck, RHP (No. 10), C.J. Chatham, SS/2B (No. 13), Connor Wong, C/INF (No. 16), Jonathan Arauz, INF (No. 30)

Dalbec headlines Boston's crop of top prospects included in the team's 60-man player pool, which has 13 open spots. The corner infielder finished last season with 30 games at Triple-A Pawtucket, where Chatham also ended his 2019. Wong and Arauz have both reached Double-A, and all four could be looking to make their cases for the Majors this year.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Yankees: Clarke Schmidt, RHP (No. 2), Deivi Garcia, RHP (No. 3), Luis Gil, RHP (No. 5), Estevan Florial, OF (No. 6), Alexander Vizcaino, RHP (No. 7), Luis Medina, RHP (No. 10), Albert Abreu, RHP (No. 11), Miguel Yajure, RHP (No. 14), Nick Nelson, RHP (No. 16), Michael King, RHP (No. 25)

The Yankees farm system is loaded with exciting young pitching talent and that wealth of arms is clearly on display in the club's 60-man player pool. The Yankees included 10 of their top 30 prospects in the pool and nine of those players are pitchers. Schmidt and Garcia headline the list and both may be able to work their way to the Majors this season. Garcia reached Triple-A last season, while Schmidt, who is a little further away, worked his way up to Double-A Trenton.

Cleveland's top talent could see its first taste of the Majors this season, with four of its top five prospects included among the 60-man player pool and 13 more of the organization's best joining them, with five open roster spots yet to be filled. Eight pitchers are listed among the 17 prospects named to the player pool by the Indians, with some positional talent that could be poised to debut during the upcoming season.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Royals: Bobby Witt Jr., SS (No. 1), Brady Singer, RHP (No. 2), Daniel Lynch, LHP (No. 3), Jackson Kowar, RHP (No. 4), Kris Bubic, LHP (No. 6), Kyle Isbel, OF (No. 7), Khalil Lee, OF (No. 8), Austin Cox, LHP (No. 11), Nick Pratto, 1B (No. 12), MJ Melendez, C (No. 13), Seuly Matias, OF (No. 14), Jeison Guzman, SS (No. 17), Daniel Tillo, LHP (No. 19), Kelvin Gutierrez, 3B (No. 21), Nick Heath, OF (No. 26), Tyler Zuber, RHP (No. 28), Josh Staumont (No. 29)

The Royals went heavy with college pitchers in the 2018 Draft, selecting Singer, Lynch, Kowar and Bubic in the first 40 picks. The club will get an up-close look at each of those three arms as they are each a part of the club's 60-man player pool.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Tigers: Casey Mize, RHP (No. 1), Matt Manning, RHP (No. 2), Riley Greene, OF (No. 3), Tarik Skubal, LHP (No. 4), Isaac Paredes, 3B/SS (No. 5), Willi Castro, SS (No. 6), Daz Cameron, OF (No. 7), Alex Faedo, RHP (No. 9), Jake Rogers, C (No. 10), Franklin Perez, RHP (No. 12), Beau Burrows, RHP (No. 13), Bryan Garcia, RHP (No. 15), Anthony Castro, RHP (No. 16), Rony Garcia, RHP (No. 25), Kyle Funkhouser, RHP (No. 26), Derek Hill, OF (No. 30), Dillon Dingler, C (second-round pick)

Pitching highlights the Tigers' farm system and the organization has included the most notable of those arms in the 60-man player pool. Mize, Manning and Skubal each impressed during Spring Training and there's a good chance they get some time with the big league club this season. Riley Greene, the Tigers' first-round pick from the 2019 Draft, is also a notable inclusion to the pool, though he's unlikely to debut this season.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Twins: Royce Lewis, SS (No. 1), Alex Kirilloff, OF (No. 2), Trevor Larnach, OF (No. 3), Jhoan Duran, RHP (No. 5), Ryan Jeffers, C (No. 6), Lewis Thorpe, LHP (No. 10), Brent Rooker, OF (No. 12), Gilberto Celestino, OF (No. 15), Edwar Colina, RHP (No. 16), Nick Gordon, INF (No. 17), Travis Blankenhorn, INF (No. 18), Dakota Chalmers, RHP (No. 23), Jorge Alcala, RHP (No. 25)

Minnesota included 13 of its Top 30 prospects among its 60-man player pool, led by the No. 9 prospect in the game in Lewis. The 21-year-old shortstop finished last season with 33 games at Double-A Pensacola and could work himself into the conversation from the Twins' remote training site this year. He's joined by five pitchers, one catcher, four outfielders and two other infielders among the prospects Minnesota will have at summer camp.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

White Sox: Luis Robert, OF (No. 1), Andrew Vaughn, 1B (No. 2), Michael Kopech, RHP (No. 3), Nick Madrigal, 2B (No. 4), Dane Dunning, RHP (No. 6), Luis Alexander Basabe, OF (No. 9), Zack Collins, C (No. 10), Jimmy Lambert, RHP (No. 16), Ian Hamilton, RHP (No. 18), Danny Mendick, INF (No. 19), Yermin Mercedes, C (No. 25), Codi Heuer, RHP (No. 27); Tyler Johnson, RHP (No. 29)

With all four of the White Sox top prospects in the 60-man pool, there's plenty of dynamic young talent ready to make a mark with the club. Among the intriguing storylines will be whether Robert, MLB's No. 3 overall prospect, makes his big league debut. Additionally, Vaughn, the 2019 No. 3 overall pick and Madrigal, the 2018 No. 4 overall pick, might give fans a glimpse of the future on the South Side.

AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST

Angels: Jo Adell, OF (No. 1), Brandon Marsh, OF (No. 2), Jordyn Adams, OF (No. 3), Patrick Sandoval, LHP (No. 6), Chris Rodriguez, RHP (No. 7), Jahmai Jones, 2B (No. 8), Hector Yan, LHP (No. 12), Garrett Stallings, RHP (No. 20), Jared Walsh, 1B/LHP (No. 23), Reid Detmers, LHP (first-round pick), Adam Seminaris, LHP (fifth-round pick)

There's a decent chance that each of the Angels' top two prospects -- Adell and Marsh -- makes their Major League debut this season. The duo almost certainly would have debuted in a 162-game season and while the shortened slate may alter plans, both are nearly ready to compete at the highest level.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Astros: Forrest Whitley, RHP (No. 1), Jose Urquidy, RHP (No. 2), Abraham Toro, 3B/2B (No. 3), Bryan Abreu, RHP (No. 5), Christian Javier, RHP (No. 6), Brandon Bielak, RHP (No. 12), Enoli Paredes, RHP (No. 13), Luis Garcia, RHP (No. 17), Jojanse Torres, RHP (No. 19), Shawn Dubin, RHP (No. 20), Garrett Stubbs, C (No. 23), Taylor Jones, 1B/OF/3B (No. 24), Chas McCormick, OF (No. 25), Brett Conine, RHP (No. 26), Blake Taylor, LHP (No. 27), Nivaldo Rodriguez, RHP (No. 29)

The Astros have included 16 of their top 30 prospects, including five of the top six, in their 60-man player pool. Whitley has struggled with consistency at times in his career, but does possess five pitches that grade as plus or better when they are working. It remains to be seen whether the right-hander will reach the Majors this season, but he'll certainly be a name to keep an eye on throughout the season.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Athletics: Jesus Luzardo, LHP (No. 1), Sean Murphy, C (No. 2), A.J. Puk, LHP (No. 3), Robert Puason, SS (No. 4), Nick Allen, SS/2B (No. 5), Sheldon Neuse, 3B/SS (No. 6), Logan Davidson, SS (No. 7), Luis Barrera, OF (No. 9), Jonah Heim, C (No. 11), Greg Deichman, OF, (No. 13),?Brayan Buelvas, OF (No. 14), Skye Bolt, OF (No. 17), Kyle McCann, C (No. 23), Buddy Reed, OF (No. 24), Brian Howard, RHP (No. 25), Parker Dunshee, RHP (No. 27), Tyler Soderstrom, C (first-round pick)

After posting a 1.50 ERA over six games and 12 innings last season with the big club, Luzardo will have a shot to crack Oakland's Opening Day roster as a member of its 60-man player pool. The southpaw leads a crop of nine prospects included in the pool, with six open roster spots remaining for the Athletics.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Mariners: Jarred Kelenic, OF (No. 1), Julio Rodriguez, OF (No. 2), Logan Gilbert, RHP (No. 3), Evan White, 1B (No. 4), George Kirby, RHP (No. 5), Noelvi Marte, SS (No. 6), Justin Dunn, RHP (No. 7), Cal Raleigh, C (No. 8), Jake Fraley, OF (No. 9), Kyle Lewis, OF (No. 10), Brandon Williamson, LHP (No. 11), Isaiah Campbell, RHP (No. 12), Justus Sheffield, LHP (No. 13), Juan Then, RHP (No. 14), Austin Shenton, 3B (No. 17), Braden Bishop, OF (No. 18), Joey Gerber, RHP (No. 19), Aaron Fletcher, LHP (No. 20), Sam Delaplane, RHP (No. 21), Donovan Walton, 2B (No. 24), Art Warren, RHP (No. 26), Ljay Newsome, RHP (No. 28), Emerson Hancock, RHP (first-round pick), Zach DeLoach, OF (second-round pick), Kaden Polcovich, 2B (third-round pick), Tyler Keenan, 3B (fourth-round pick)

Seattle could see the majority of the organization's top talent getting a chance to crack the Major League roster throughout the upcoming shortened season, with all of its top 14 prospects included in the 60-man player pool and 22 of its Top 30. It gives outfielders Kelenic and Rodriguez a chance to join the conversation, and Opening Day could be the first opportunity for Mariners fans to get a glimpse of Evan White in big league action, after the first baseman signed a six-year, $24 million deal in November ahead of his debut.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Rangers: Josh Jung, 3B (No. 1), Sam Huff, C (No. 2), Leody Taveras, OF (No. 3), Nick Solak, INF/OF (No. 5), Anderson Tejada, SS (No. 8), Joe Palumbo, LHP (No. 9), Sherten Apostel, INF (No. 10), Demarcus Evans, RHP (No. 22), Tyler Phillips, RHP (No. 24), Jonathan Hernandez, RHP (No. 25)

Texas' top prospect got into 40 games at Class A Advanced Hickory last season after being selected 8th overall in the Draft in June, and now Jung will be matching up against the best competition the Rangers have to offer, likely at the alternate training site for the club. The third baseman is one of 10 prospects among the team's 60-man player pool for the upcoming season, with five open roster spots.

NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST

Braves: Cristian Pache, OF (No. 1), Drew Waters, OF (No. 2), Ian Anderson, RHP (No. 3), Kyle Wright, RHP (No. 4), Shea Langeliers, C (No. 5), Bryse Wilson, RHP (No. 6), Braden Shewmake, SS (No. 7), Kyle Muller, LHP (No. 8), William Contreras (No. 9), Tucker Davidson, LHP (No. 10), Huascar Ynoa, RHP (No. 11), Jasseel De La Cruz, RHP (No. 12), Patrick Weigel, RHP (No. 16), Bryce Ball, 1B (No. 21),? Alex Jackson, C (No. 22), Philip Pfeifer, LHP (No. 28), Logan Brown, C (No. 30), Jared Shuster, LHP (first-round pick)

The Braves have an enticing mix of pitchers and position players atop their Top 30 Prospects list and each of the organization's top 12 prospects have been added to the player pool. While Langeliers, Atlanta's first-round pick from the 2019 Draft, is unlikely to see any Major League action this season, there's a chance each of the club's top four prospects could see time with the Braves.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Marlins: Sixto Sanchez, RHP (No. 1), JJ Bleday, OF (No. 2), Jazz Chisholm, SS (No. 3), Jesus Sanchez, OF (No. 4), Edward Cabrera, RHP (No. 5), Braxton Garrett, LHP (No. 6), Lewin Diaz, 1B (No. 7), Trevor Rogers, LHP (No. 8), Monte Harrison, OF (No. 9), Nick Neidert, RHP (No. 10), Jose Devers, SS (No. 11), Jerar Encarnacion, OF (No. 15), Jorge Guzman, RHP (No. 19), Jordan Holloway, RHP (No. 20), Humberto Mejia, RHP (No. 23), Will Banfield, C (No. 25), Alex Vesia, LHP (No. 27), Sterling Sharp, RHP (No. 28), Robert Dugger, RHP (No. 30), Max Meyer, RHP (first-round pick)

The future is now for the Marlins, who have included 19 of their Top 30 Prospects in their 60-man player poo. Headlined by top prospect Sanchez, who posted a 2.53 ERA in 18 starts and 103 innings at Double-A Jacksonville last year, several hurlers will see action either with the big league club or at the team's remote training site in the coming days. One of those is Meyer, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 Draft.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Mets: Andres Gimenez, SS (No. 3), Kevin Smith, LHP (No. 9), David Peterson, LHP (No. 10), Walker Lockett, RHP (No. 25), Ali Sanchez, C (No. 26)

The Mets only included five prospects in their initial 60-man player pool, however each has a prospect ETA of 2020. Lockett is the only member of the group with Major League experience, having pitched 37 2/3 innings over the past two seasons.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Nationals: Carter Kieboom, SS/2B (No. 1), Luis Garcia, SS/2B (No. 2), Jackson Rutledge, RHP (No. 3), Wil Crowe, RHP (No. 4), Tim Cate, LHP (No. 8), Seth Romero, LHP (No. 9), Matt Cronin, LHP (No. 10), Joan Adon, RHP (No. 16), Tres Barrera, C (No. 19), Jake Irvin, RHP (No. 21), Ben Braymer, LHP (No. 22), James Bourque, RHP (No. 23), Steven Fuentes, RHP (No. 24), Raudy Read, C (No. 25)

Kieboom struggled in his brief time with the Nationals last season, hitting .128 over 11 games, however he absolutely raked with Triple-A Fresno, where he hit .303 over 109 games. Expect Kieboom, who highlights the Nationals' player-pool prospects, to get some more meaningful at-bats at the Major League level this season.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Phillies: Alec Bohm, 3B/1B (No. 1), Spencer Howard, RHP (No. 2), Enyel De Los Santos, RHP (No. 8), Jojo Romero, LHP (No. 13), Damon Jones, LHP (No. 14), Mauricio Llovera, RHP (No. 15), Connor Seabold, RHP (No. 21), Cole Irvin, LHP (No. 22), Deivy Grullon, C (No. 24)

The Phillies have included nine of their top prospects in their 60-man player pool. De Los Santos is the only member of the group to have already contributed at the big league level, but there are several other intriguing names in this group, most notably the organization's top two prospects -- Bohm and Howard.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL

Brewers: Drew Rasmussen, RHP (No. 9), Devin Williams, RHP (No. 13), Zack Brown, RHP (No. 14)

The Brewers only included three prospects in their initial 60-man player pool, and even though each has ETA of 2020, only Williams has big league experience. Williams pitched in 13 games last season after making his MLB debut in August.
Roster
| Top 30 Prospects

Cardinals: Dylan Carlson, OF (No. 1), Nolan Gorman, 3B (No. 2), Matthew Liberatore, LHP (No. 3), Ivan Herrera, C (No. 4), Andrew Knizner, C (No. 6), Genesis Cabrera, RHP (No. 9), Junior Fernandez, RHP (No. 10), Johan Oviedo, RHP (No. 11), Jake Woodford, RHP (No. 12), Angel Rondon, RHP (No. 13), Kodi Whitley, RHP (No. 14), Julio Rodriguez, C (No. 15), Malcom Nunez, 3B (No. 16), Justin Williams, OF (No. 17), Trejyn Fletcher, OF (No. 18), Edmundo Sosa, INF (No. 20), Roel Ramirez, RHP (No. 25), Ricardo Sanchez, LHP (No. 26), Alvaro Seijas, RHP (No. 30), Jordan Walker, 3B (First-round pick), Masyn Winn, SS/RHP (Second-round pick)

Carlson, the Cardinals' No. 1 overall prospect, certainly stands out as the biggest name on this list, but there are other players worth keeping an eye on as well. Knizner played in 18 games last season and Cabrera and Fernandez also have big league experience.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Cubs: Nico Hoerner, SS/2B/OF (No. 1), Brailyn Marquez, LHP (No. 2), Brennen Davis, OF (No. 3), Miguel Amaya, C (No. 4), Adbert Alzolay, RHP (No. 6), Christopher Morel, 3B (No. 10), James Norwood, RHP (No. 23)

While Hoerner and Norwood are the only Cubs prospects headed to Wrigley, several others will be working out in South Bend as part of the 60-man player pool. While Marquez, Davis and Amaya don't seem particularly likely to debut this season, the fact that the club added them to the player pool and wants them to work out with other top players is certainly a positive sign for their development.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Pirates: Mitch Keller, RHP (No. 1), Ke'Bryan Hayes, 3B (No. 2), Oneil Cruz, SS (No. 3), Travis Swaggerty, OF (No. 6), Jared Oliva, OF (No. 9), Cody Bolton, RHP (No. 10), Ji-Hwan Bae, 2B/SS (No. 11), Mason Martin, 1B (No. 15), Kevin Kramer, INF/OF (No. 18), Will Craig, 1B (No. 19), Max Kranick, RHP (No. 21), Rodolfo Castro, INF (No. 23), Aaron Shortridge, RHP (No. 27), Blake Cederlind, RHP (No. 28)

There's plenty of young talent in Pittsburgh's player pool, with each of the top three prospects being added. The Pirates split their squad up, with some prospects training in Altoona as part of the player pool. After getting 11 starts and throwing 48 innings last year in the Majors, Keller has a chance to crack the Opening Day roster. Hayes hit .265/.336/.415 in 110 games at Triple-A Indianapolis in 2019, where Cederlind got into three games to finish his season, and both could have a shot at debuting this year.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Four of the Reds top five prospects were selected for the 60-man player pool, however none of them will be working out at Great American Ball Park. While most of the Major League squad works out in the Reds' home stadium, the prospects will be at nearby Prasco Park.

The D-backs' 60-man player pool features some intriguing prospects, including nine of the top 10 prospects. Two of those prospects -- Thomas and Perdomo -- are both 20 years old, while Carroll is just 19 and Walston is 18. D-backs fans will also get a glimpse of Beer, a former first-round Draft pick who was acquired by Arizona from Milwaukee in the Zack Greinke trade in July 2019.

Dodgers fans got an up-close look at both Lux and May last season and will undoubtedly see even more from the club's top two prospects in 2020. The Dodgers have included seven of their top 10 prospects in the player pool and several of those players are likely to receive playing time. Graterol, whom the Dodgers acquired in an offseason trade with the Twins, is another player worth keeping an eye on as he boasts one of the most impressive fastballs in baseball.

Giants: Joey Bart, C (No. 1), Marco Luciano, SS (No. 2), Heliot Ramos, OF (No. 3), Alexander Canario, OF (No. 6), Luis Toribio, 3B (No. 7), Will Wilson, SS/2B (No. 10), Mauricio Dubon, SS/2B (No. 11), Logan Webb, RHP (No. 12), Jaylin Davis, OF (No. 13), Camilo Doval, RHP (No. 22), Dany Jimenez, RHP (No. 29), Patrick Bailey (first-round pick)

The Giants included all three of their top prospects, a trio that should give San Francisco hope for a bright future. Bart, the 2018 No. 2 overall pick, could be the organization's next big star behind the plate, while Luciano has been ascending prospect rankings over the past year. They're joined by Ramos, a 2017 first-round pick.

The Padres included 17 prospects in their 60-man player pool, including nine of their top 10. While The Padres certainly have a number of prospects to keep tabs on, there will be plenty of attention on both Gore and Patino. The organization's top two pitching prospects come with plenty of hype and fanfare and both have the potential to debut in 2020.
Roster | Top 30 Prospects

Rockies: Brendan Rodgers, 2B/SS (No. 1), Ryan Rolison, LHP (No. 2), Sam Hilliard, OF (No. 9), Ben Bowden, LHP (No. 10), Yonathan Daza, OF (No. 11), Tyler Nevin, 1B/3B (No. 12), Ryan Castellani, RHP (No. 15), Josh Fuentes, 3B/1B (No. 18), Tommy Doyle, LHP (No. 19), Ashton Goudeau, RHP (No. 26), Antonio Santos, RHP (No. 30)

Rodgers played 25 games with the Rockies last season, but a torn labrum prematurely ended his season. The middle infielder is likely to get a decent amount of playing time in the Majors this year. Hilliard is also a prospect to keep an eye on as he fared well and his .273 with seven homers.
