Mancini agrees to Minors deal with D-backs (source)
Trey Mancini is looking to make a Major League comeback with the D-backs.
The veteran slugger agreed to a Minor League deal with Arizona on Friday, which includes an invitation to Spring Training, a source told MLB.com's Jake Rill. The team hasn't confirmed the deal.
Mancini did not play in the Majors in 2024. The 32-year-old first baseman and outfielder last played with the Cubs in 2023, when he batted .234 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 79 games.
Mancini had four 20-plus homer seasons with the Orioles between 2017 and '21, including a career-high 35 home runs in 2019.
Coming off that 35-homer year, Mancini was diagnosed with colon cancer and missed the entire 2020 season. But he beat cancer and returned to hit 21 home runs for the O's in 2021. Mancini was named the American League Comeback Player of the Year.
Mancini, who also won a World Series championship in 2022 with the Astros, is a career .263 hitter with 129 home runs and a .775 OPS in seven Major League seasons.
