Twins clear arbitration slate with contracts for all eligible players
The Twins will avoid arbitration hearings in 2025.
The club announced Thursday that it had reached contract agreements with all eight of its remaining arbitration-eligible players. Pitchers Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax, Bailey Ober and Joe Ryan, catcher Ryan Jeffers, infielder Royce Lewis, outfielder Trevor Larnach and utilityman Willi Castro all agreed to one-year deals for the 2025 season.
Thursday afternoon marked the deadline for the exchange of arbitration figures for eligible players. Teams and players are permitted to continue negotiating after the deadline for exchange of figures. However, it has become common for clubs to treat the deadline as an unofficial cutoff, and instead proceed to arbitration hearings with any players who have not agreed by that time. Last year, the Twins went to a hearing with outfielder Nick Gordon, who was subsequently traded to Miami.
¡°It always feels good when we get to where we are today and don¡¯t have any hearings on the books,¡± said general manager Jeremy Zoll.
Six of the eight players -- all but Jeffers (second year) and Castro (third year) -- were arbitration eligible for the first time. Because arbitration salaries rely in part on service time, first-year arbitration-eligible players often have narrower potential salary ranges than those going through the process for a second or third time. MLB.com¡¯s Mark Feinsand reported that Castro agreed at $6.4 million and Jax at $2.365 million.
In total, the Twins entered this offseason with 11 arbitration-eligible players. Relievers Brock Stewart, Michael Tonkin and Justin Topa reached agreements in November prior to the non-tender deadline.
