We¡¯ve seen our fair share of broken-bat hits in baseball. What happened in Wednesday¡¯s Double-A matchup between the Columbus Clingstones and Chattanooga Lookouts was even wackier than your normal version of a broken-bat hit.
The Clingstones' Chandler Seagle shattered his bat on a slow roller that went past the pitcher and toward Chattanooga shortstop Dominic Pitelli. As that slow roller made its way to Pitelli, however, so too did part of Seagle¡¯s bat, which landed in front of the shortstop. Just as Pitelli got in position to make the play, the baseball ricocheted off the bat in the opposite direction. Seagle got an infield hit and RBI and the runner on first made it all the way to third.
"I have never, ever seen that in my 45 years of calling baseball,¡± said Lookouts broadcaster Larry Ward. "Holy cats!"
