New faces

When the 2020-21 international signing period opened, after a pandemic-induced delay, on January 15, Rickardo Perez was ranked ninth on MLB Pipeline¡¯s Top 30 international prospect list. The Phillies signed the left-handed hitting catcher for $1 million because of his ability to barrel up the baseball at the plate and his long-term defensive potential behind it.

On the shelf

The Phillies have a few prospects getting into playing shape, from Erik Miller on the mound to Kendall Simmons at the plate. But the one who¡¯s shelved the furthest away isn¡¯t even because of injury. Simon Muzziotti has been unable to get out of his native Venezuela to join the organization stateside. He¡¯ll have some catching up to do before he¡¯ll be ready to join a club.
