**COACHING/MANAGING CAREER** Dave Collins is in his first season as the Marlins first base coach, also doubling as the club's outfield coach. He was appointed to his position on November 6, 2009. The 2010 season will mark his 30th season in professional baseball...His last professional coaching position was that of manager for the single-A Inland Empire 66ers in the Los Angeles Dodgers system in 2007. He led the club to a 72-67 record and a berth in the California League playoffs, eventually falling to Lake Elsinore in the first round...From 2003-06, Collins was the first base coach for the Colorado Rockies. Prior to his stint with the Rockies, he served one year as Milwaukee's first base coach in 2002...In 2001 he was back at the minor league managerial level, guiding the Salem Avalanche to a 70-68 record and the Carolina League title...After retiring as a player in 1990, he started his coaching career as the St. Louis Cardinals' first base coach for the 1991 and '92 seasons. From St. Louis he went to Cincinnati and was the Reds' first base coach from 1999-2000. **PLAYING CAREER** Collins played 16 seasons in the Majors with eight different organizations. He finished with a .272 career average and 395 stolen bases, including 79 for the Reds in 1980. The 79 steals still rank as the third-most in franchise history...Hit a career-best .318 during 1979, helping lead the Reds into the playoffs. Posted a .357 average in the National League Championship Series, but Cincinnati was swept in three games by the Pirates...Stole 60 bases in 1984 while batting .308 with an American League-leading 15 triples for the Blue Jays. Recorded his 1,000th career hit that season on August 31 off Minnesota's Pete Filson...Was an original member of the Seattle Mariners in 1977. PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS David Scott Collins...has two children, Ryan and Courtney...graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, SD in 1971 where he was named the school's Athlete of the Year...was also named Athlete of the Decade (1970-79) and Athlete of the Quarter Century (1950-75) in South Dakota...was a junior college All-American at Mesa (AZ) Community College.
