Thomas Jones Goodwin
? Thomas Jones (Tom) Goodwin was named the Mets first base coach on October 29, 2011...Also responsible for the club's outfielders and handles baserunning instruction for the team. ? Was a member of the Boston Red Sox organization from 2008-2011, the last three as the organization's Minor League Outfield and Baserunning Coordinator. ? In 2008, he coached Lowell (A) of the New York-Penn League, helping the Spinners to a 40-33 record and a first-place finish. ? Also managed the Lewisville Lizards of the Independent Continental Baseball League in 2007. ? Played 14 major league seasons with the Dodgers (1991-1993, 2000-2001), Royals (1994-1997), Rangers (1997-1999), Rockies (2000), Giants (2002) and Cubs (2003-2004). ? Was a lifetime .268 hitter with 24 home runs, 284 RBI and 369 stolen bases. ? Recorded 50 or more stolen bases in four different seasons, with a career-high 66 with Kansas City in 1996. ? From 1995-2000, he never ranked lower than seventh in the American League in steals, including three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. ? During his career, he put together 62 multiple-steal contests, including a four-steal game on June 7, 2000 at Seattle. ? Stole home three times. ? In his major league career, he was successful in 369 of 487 (76 percent) stolen base attempts. ? Committed only 22 errors, recording a .991 fielding percentage (2,402 total chances). ? Went to the postseason four times, including his first career World Series appearance in 2002 with the Giants. ? Is a 1986 graduate of Central High School in Fresno, CA where he played baseball, football and basketball. ? Was originally selected by the Dodgers out of Fresno State in the first round (22nd overall pick) of the 1989 Amateur Draft. ? At Fresno State, he was a two-time All-America selection...Also was named to The Sporting News' College AllAmerica team in 1989. ? Was a member of the 1988 Gold Medal winning USA Olympic baseball team. ? Selected by the Pirates in the sixth round of the 1986 Amateur Draft but did not sign.

Goodwin was 10-for-51 with one RBI off the bench. He made seven starts in center field, three in left and one in right. Goodwin also had a trio of multi-hit games: May 20 vs. San Francisco, May 31 at Los Angeles, and Aug. 19 at Milwaukee. He was on the DL from May 24-June 11 with a strained right groin.

Tom saw action in 87 games in his first season with the Cubs, batting .287 with 1 homer, 12 RBI and 19 stolen bases.
