2005

A much-traveled Hernandez did prove versatile in his ability to play several positions, but his bat was a disappointment. He hit .231 in 234 at-bats, a total that included 60 strikeouts. His .338 slugging percentage was among the lowest on the team.

Became the first Cub to start at all four infield positions in a decade, seeing action in 121 overall contests...made 12 starts at third base, five starts at shortstop, 10 starts at second base, one start at first base and one start in leftfield...the last Cub to start at all four infield positions in one season was Manny Trillo in 1987...overall, he played in 47 games at third base, 21 at shortstop, 20 at second base, six in leftfield and one at first base...batted .268 with seven doubles, five triples, three home runs and 13 RBI in games he started...batted .286 as a pinch hitter with four runs batted in and his first pinch hit home run on July 13 off St. Louisb Todd Stottlemyre at Wrigley Field.

Spent almost half of the season as the Cubsb starting shortstop after beginning the campaign as the clubbs Opening Day third baseman...played in 87 games at shortstop (71 starts), 43 games at third base (11 starts), one game at second base and one game in centerfield...made his first Opening Day start on April 1 at third base against San Diego...entered the Cubsb June 3 contest vs Philadelphia as a defensive replacement at shortstop for the injured Rey Sanchez and hit a game-ending home run off Ken Ryan...went on to start the next 33 games at short...notched a career-high four hits and scored the winning run in the Cubsb 16-inning 9-6 victory at San Diego June 22.

1995

Saw action in 93 games and batted .245 with 13 home runs and 40 runs batted in...of his 60 hits, 28 were for extra bases...averaged one home run every 18.9 at-bats and one RBI every 6.1 at-bats...had his first Major League multi-homer game on August 31 hitting two home runs at Florida, including a grand slam off Buddy Groom...appeared in 43 games at shortstop (19 starts), 29 games at second base (26 starts) and 20 games at third base (10 starts).

1994

Was a versatile utility player in his first season with the Cubs appearing in 28 games at third base (nine starts), 21 games at shortstop (13 starts), eight games at second base (two starts) and one game in centerfield...hit his first Major League home run on May 12 off St. Louisb Tom Urbani at Busch Stadium.

1993

Began the season with Canton-Akron, the Double A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, hitting .200 with nine stolen bases in 45 games...was assigned to Orlando, Double A affilate of the Chicago Cubs, after being traded on June 1...batted .304 in 71 games with eight home runs and 33 RBI...had a 22-game hitting streak July 30-August 23 batting .359...received a late season promotion to Triple A Iowa on August 30.

1992

Claimed off waivers by Cleveland on April 3...played in 130 games for Canton-Akron, the Eastern League champions...hit .255 with 56 runs scored and 46 RBI...played in three games for Cleveland after being recalled September 25...went hitless in four at-bats.

1991

Spent most of the Minor League campaign with Tulsa, the Double A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, recording a Texas League best .968 fielding percentage at shortstop...was promoted to Triple A Oklahoma City June 27...batted .304 in 14 games before returning to Tulsa July 13...saw his first Major League action, appearing in 45 games with Texas after being recalled from Tulsa on August 9...had four hits and a walk in his first five plate appearances, including a single off Milwaukeebs Chris Bosio in his first Major League at bat August 9...began Major League career red hot hitting .333 in his first 12 games...had a .975 fielding percentage in 44 games at shortstop...also played in one game at third base...fractured his left collarbone and shoulder blade in a collision with teammate Kevin Reimer on October 4.
