Full name DEREK CHRISTOPHER LOWE...He and his wife Carolyn reside in Ft. Myers, FL...He has two sons, Phillip and Tanner, and a daughter, Taylor...Graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, MI in 1991...Was all-league in baseball, basketball, soccer and golf and first-team allstate in basketball...Was named the Dodgers' 2007 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award...Hosted the Dodgers Dream Foundation's Bowling Extravaganza, helping to raise money for Mattel Children's Hospital...Began the D-Lowe's Heroes program where he hosted patients and their families from Mattel Children's Hospital at various home games throughout the season...Following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his nose in 2002, devoted many hours in 2003 to educating the public about the risks of skin cancer and sun safety...The Red Sox hosted a Sun Awareness Day, and he was featured on a trading card included in a sunawareness kit distributed to fans... Hobbies include golf and listening to country music.

Derek is one of just three pitchers in Major League Baseball history with 160+ wins and 80+ saves in a career along with John Smoltz and Dennis Eckersley...Is a two-time American League All-Star (2000, 2002), owns a no-hitter (2002) and is sixth among active Major League pitchers in wins (166) and innings pitched (2515.2). The veteran righthander completed his fourth season with the Dodgers, posting a 14-11 record to go along with a 3.24 ERA in a team-best 34 starts. In his home debut at Dodger Stadium on April 15, hurled a complete-game three-hitter to defeat San Diego, 3-0, for his first win as a Dodger...marked his second career shutout and third complete game ... Snapped a five-game losing streak and won his first road game of the year, defeating the Phillies, 10-2, on July 20...allowed just two runs (none earned), six hits, no walks with five strikeouts over 7.0 innings, including his 800th career strikeout ... Tossed a complete-game one-hitter in a 7-0 shutout on Aug. 31 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field...the only hit was an infield single by leadoff batter Jerry Hairston in the first inning...issued just two walks and struck out seven...faced just 29 batters, retired 26 of the final 28 and at one point retired 14 in a row...no runner reached second base...it was his second complete game of the season and fourth of his career...was only the second pitcher in 2005 (Mets' Aaron Heilman) to toss a one-hit complete game, having allowed only an infield single.
2004

His first blown save of the season on April 22 at New York, ended a run of 25 consecutive saves converted...the streak, which had been the longest active in the Majors, began following his last blown save on July 14, 2000 ... Recorded eight straight saves in eight appearances from June 8-26, the longest streak of his career and best by a Red Sox player since Tom Gordon registered 10 saves in 10 outings from April 22-May 10, 1998 ... In his first season as a full-time closer, tied Detroit's Todd Jones for the AL saves lead, closing out 42 of 47 save chances, and earning his first career All-Star selection ... Finished second in the AL Rolaids Relief Man standing, tying Jones for the title with 118 points, but losing the tie-breaker with one more blown save....his 42 saves were second-most in Red Sox history, four shy of Tom Gordon's 1998 club record ... Led the AL with 64 games finished, third-most in club annals (Gordon finished 69 in 1998 and Dick Radatz closed out 67 in 1964) ... His 91.1 innings were second-most among AL relievers, while his .894 save percentage and 2.56 ERA were third in the league ... Made a team-high 74 appearances and tied Tim Wakefield for the team lead with 15 saves, going 6-3 with a 2.63 ERA ... Lead Red Sox relievers with 32 games finished, 109.1 innings and 80 strikeouts ... Became the first Boston reliever to top 100.0 innings since Greg Harris threw 112.1 in 1993 ... Worked 4.0 no-hit, no run innings to save a Tim Wakefield win on May 28 at Cleveland...threw 4.0 innings of relief again on July 24 at Detroit.
1998
Began his first full season with the Red Sox in the rotation, dropping his first two starts on April 3 at Seattle and April 8 at Anaheim ... Made his next 13 outings in relief, posting a 1.69 ERA (4 ER/21.1 IP) ... Entered July 0-7 as a starter before posting his first Sox win on July 25 vs. Toronto ... Did not allow an earned run in five relief appearances (4.2 IP) from Sept. 8-16.
1997
Began the season with Seattle's Triple-A affiliate, prior to being recalled by the Mariners on April 25...took the loss in his April 26 Major League debut at Toronto, allowing one run on four hits in 2.1 innings and striking out two...was optioned back to Tacoma on May 5 ... Was recalled on May 27 to make his first Major League start that night ... Picked up his first big league win by a 6-3 score on June 6 at Detroit...allowed three runs on five hits in 5.1 innings, walking one and punching out a pair ... Was 2-4 with a 6.96 ERA in 12 games (nine starts) for Seattle before being optioned back to Tacoma on July 21...10 days later, was traded to the Red Sox ... Was 4-0 with a 2.37 ERA in six games (five starts) with Triple-A Pawtucket before being recalled by the Red Sox on Sept. 1 ... Made his Boston debut on Sept. 1 in Montreal, allowing one run on one hit in 2.1 innings ... Went 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in relief appearances for the Sox to finish a combined 2-3 with a 7.89 ERA in 20 games (nine starts) for Seattle and Boston.

Split the season between Mariners' minor league affiliates Double-A Port City and Triple-A Tacoma ... After going 5-3 with a 3.05 ERA in 10 Double-A starts, was promoted to Triple-A on May 25 ... Started 16 of the 17 games he pitched in for Tacoma going 6-9 with a 4.54 ERA.
1995
After experiencing a twinge in his right elbow in Spring Training, opened the year in Extended Spring Training...debuted for the Mariners' Arizona Rookie League club on June 27 and joined Double-A Port City July 8 ... Earned his only win on Aug. 13 at Carolina, allowing one earned run over 6.0 innings ... Following the season, pitched for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League, going 2-3 with a 3.02 ERA.
