His 10 wins and 115 strikeouts were the most by a Royals left-handed pitcher since Jose Rosado won 10
in 1999...his 210.0 innings were the most by a Royals lefty since Chris Haney threw 228.0 in 1996.

Opened the season on the Disabled List with a left groin strain (retro to March 27)...was activated on April 13 and made his 1st start since Sept. 8, 1997 at Toronto...pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 2 hits (both home runs) at Cleveland, before leaving the game with a reaggravation of the injury to his left groin.
Was placed on the D.L. on April 14...was activated again on May 18 and started that night in Cleveland.
Other than his 3 rehab starts in Wichita (AA) and Omaha (AAA), it marked the 1st complete season at the Major League level for May, who completed his 11th season of professional baseball.
